Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) training in Melbourne

Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy is a 16 session therapy protocol for the treatment of depression and other mood disorders developed by a team from the Tavistock Portman Trust NHS and the Anna Freud Clinic. It draws from Object Relations, Attachment Theory Mentalisation based treatments and Relational Theory. The developers and researchers were Peter Fonagy, Mary Target and Alessandra Lemma. The course meets the requirements of the practice standards for delivering the psychoanalytic therapies and is approved by the British Psychoanalytic Council. It has been rolled out by the British Government for the program: Increased Access to the psychological therapies. In Australia it is potentially suitable for delivery in rural/remote areas where the availability of treatment options is limited. DIT can be adapted for work with couples and groups. DIT ss also being utilised in Europe, the United States, South Africa and South America and, in 2017, a training will be held in China.

The Australian training will be offered by consultant trainers Deborah Abrahams, member of the British Psychoanalytical Society, and Neelam Dosanjh, a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist, along with Dr Christine Brett Vickers, Clinical Social Worker and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and member of the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists. All are experienced DIT practitioners, supervisors and tutors. The training is made available through a collaboration between Mindful - centre for training and research in developmental health (Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne) and the Tavistock Portman Trust/Anna Freud Centre, UK.
