A Baby and Someone: Family and Systemic Infant Mental Health for Medically Unwell Infants 

We are excited to announce details of our second WA seminar for 2025, which is also available as an online option, delivered by Dr Beate Harrison.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Dr Beate Harrison is an infant and child psychiatrist and Head of Service for the Psychiatric Inreach Team at Perth Children's Hospital. This team provides a specialised infant psychiatry consultation and liaison service to infants and their families at the hospital. Beate has worked across PIMH inpatient and community settings in WA after completing senior registrar training in infant psychiatry in Melbourne. She won the RANZCP Connell Werry Prize for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training for her thesis on neurodevelopment. She has interests in supporting vulnerable infants through family approaches particularly in the setting of illness and psychosocial adversity.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR 
This seminar will aim to highlight the impact of significant medical illness including prematurity on the infant's social, emotional and attachment needs. It will explore the impact on parenting and family relationships for the infant during prolonged hospitalisation and consider effective strategies to address infant mental health of this vulnerable infant group in hospital settings.
