AAIMH SA Event:

Strengthening Relationships in Infant Development

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

This day focuses on the transformative power of relationships in early childhood development. The presentation will be led by Vicky Gilroy, Director of Innovation and Research for the UK Institute of Health Visiting (iHV). In this seminar, Vicky and her team will discuss how UK Health Visitors are being trained to work on, in, and within relationships, placing relational health visitors at the heart of service delivery. Beginning with a pre-recorded video from Hilda Beauchamp, iHV PIMH Lead, the session will share the iHV evaluation of a Perinatal and Infant Mental Health training programme and consider lessons learnt. Present learning from two research studies that consider the implementation of the modified Alarm Distress Baby Scale (m-ADBB) and ADBB in UK health visitor practice, as well as introduce the importance of fathers as vital caregivers, exploring current practice to support fathers. Dr Sharin Baldwin, iHV, will share the groundbreaking film Invisible, which aims to raise awareness of fathers’ mental health, along with her insights into their experiences via a pre-recorded video. Their overall presentation highlights how real-world clinical experience and research evidence shape service innovation and policy reform.

Dr Patricia O’Rourke, PhD, developer of the Maternal Looking Guide, will contribute to the discussion by offering valuable insights into how the Maternal Looking Guide also supports the promotion of early relational health. The day will be primarily interactive with some teaching, and opportunities for networking. It will be of interest for anyone working in the early relational health space, including leaders and managers of services involved in early intervention with infants and their families.
